The story of Lucas - Spanish for the little ones
Six-year-old Lucas and I were going on a longer stay abroad, and we wanted our son to learn at least some basics of Spanish. Our boy was in pre-school age, so he couldn't read or write much. Therefore, the classes were approached in such a way that he learned as much as possible. So they prepared a range of fun games, songs, and poems for him, and the tutor spoke only in Spanish. The “total physical response” (TPR) method, which involves the whole body in the lessons and children fix the words by showing them in motion, has also proved very useful. Lucas learned quickly, and we noticed his progress very soon. And because Lucas, of course, had to go to school abroad, we used this method to learn the basics of reading and writing. We were very satisfied, and we can confirm that we really like the individual and intensive approach.

Mark was a child, according to the kindergarten teachers, “with no manners”. But everything was a little more complicated. Mark had trouble concentrating because he perceived sequence and succession differently and needed to adjust cognitive function deficits. Our son Matthew was supposed to go to school enrolment and was labelled as a “naughty” child. He had trouble learning the basic minimum for enrolment, and he didn’t show much interest in learning. Because I was not satisfied with the approach I encountered in the pedagogical-psychological counselling office, I was looking for a method that would be individual and more human. My granddaughter started attending tutoring at Populo last year when she was in the ninth grade, and her grades were like on a rollercoaster. The worst was chemistry, and she improved in it a lot. In the second half of the year, we replaced chemistry with Biology and I must say that the progress was evident. In the spring, I arranged a few mathematics lessons for my youngest granddaughter (6th grade), who needed to improve her grades for the report card, and she also improved. It is true that both girls were interested in improving. If there was no interest, it probably wouldn’t be that good. I definitely appreciate the environment – a friendly atmosphere, and tutors who can work with moody teenagers. After each lesson, parents receive on their e-mail an evaluation, but here I have the impression that there is a tendency rather to praise. This year, one of the granddaughters continues attending Populo.
